Kleigha, age four, is a courageous cancer fighter from Bismarck. She was diagnosed with neuroblastoma the day after her first birthday in June of 2016. The next day, she was ambulanced to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN to begin treatment. Kleigha had surgery to have her port placed while her oncologist came up with a plan for chemotherapy. Doctors also wanted to get a sample of the tumor to perform a biopsy; However, rather than just a sample, the surgeon was actually able to remove 98% of the tumor! Her port was removed six months later once it was determined that she would not need chemo since the tumor was not growing or changing. Kleigha still returns to Mayo to be monitored, but hopefully after this year, if all continues to go well, she can just follow up with her pediatrician in Bismarck.
As a result of the neuroblastoma, Kleigha struggles with Horner’s syndrome in her left eye. She is currently attending preschool without any educational concerns and she is doing very well and wants to be a mermaid when she grows up! Kleigha loves llamas and the color yellow. She is a happy little girl with a family full of love! Her siblings, Brogan (8), Tayah (6) and Callen (5 months) are her biggest fans and have been there for her throughout her entire journey with cancer. Kleigha has an angel baby sister, Mikah, who is looking over her every day.
Kleigha is not the only member of the Guthmiller family who has received a cancer diagnosis. Her mom, Kyla, was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer. She had to undergo a hysterectomy and fortunately does not need chemotherapy or radiation. Kleigha and Kyla are an inspiration to everyone!
