Dash is a 13-year-old cancer survivor who lives in Bismarck. He was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) shortly after his seventh birthday in February of 2014. He fought cancer bravely as he received chemotherapy treatments for nearly three and a half years at Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo. He completed treatment in May of 2017 by taking his last dose of oral chemo. He was surrounded by lots of friends and family at Sky Zone to celebrate the big day. The following month, he rang the bell to signify completing treatment. Dash continues to have an annual check-up with his oncologist, who always claims that Dash is “boring.” Boring to an oncologist is exactly what a person wants to be!
Dash is happy to be a normal teen enjoying school, sports, and hanging out with his friends. He’s very active and plays soccer, baseball, track, and loves to snowboard! He also enjoys family time spent camping, fishing, and hunting. Dash is quite the animal lover and his family has a variety of pets including a bearded dragon, boa constrictor and two dogs. Dash’s brother, Chaz (14), was always his biggest supporter throughout treatment! Pediatric cancer affects the entire family and siblings have their own set of struggles. Chaz has a huge heart and has always put his brother first! He has shaved his head to honor Dash for five years and on his own, he has raised over $40,000 to help families like their own. What an incredible gesture from such an amazing young man!
Dash’s dad, Taner, has shaved his head and beard for Brave the Shave for the last six years. He is also the Brave the Shave Family Representative and helps provide support to all of the honoree families when in need.
