What I thought would be just a lesson in expository writing for my high school English students, quickly turned in to something so much more! My students and I had read a nonfiction article about a young man who passed away at 19 years old due to cancer. My students exclaimed, "I wish there was something that we could do to help." Then, an idea was born!
I was touched by my students’ reaction to the article. That inspiration made me spring into action. I told the students that I would shave my head to stand in solidarity with those children who have cancer, as well as try to raise as much money as possible to help families that have a child with cancer. I explained to my students how important it is to support these families, as well as support research that is being done to find a cure. They will be using their awesome persuasive writing skills to urge community members and businesses to donate and spread the word about this cause!
Please support my class in helping these families!
