Football, golf, the Miami Dolphins, the Chicago Cubs, Skittles, Wendy’s 4 for $4, faith, family, and friends; these are just a few of the things that Hunter Seifert loved! Hunter and his parents knew something was wrong when he was having trouble running the field for football practice, started falling asleep in class, and had a backache that wouldn’t go away. Hunter Seifert was diagnosed with stage IV alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma in October of 2016. He fought an unfair battle for nearly two and a half years. Hunter passed away on February 15 of last year. Rather than turning 18 like he should this year, he will forever be 16. A cancer diagnosis changed the entire “Seifert 6”. Hunter’s parents, along with his sister, Gabrielle, and brothers, Carter and Mason, learned many valuable lessons along the way. They learned to live life to the absolute fullest. They have also learned that communication is a key force when tackling grief head on. Hunter will always be remembered for his amazing and unwavering faith! His parents, Dan and Julie, would like to share part of an essay he wrote for English class four months before he passed away. “When you are thrust into a situation that is similar to mine, you will learn a lot of things. You will definitely learn who you are as a person. You will have all of your life choices, good and bad, flash before you and you will either feel sickened by them, or you will be satisfied with what you see. The most important thing that I learned through this is that I need to trust God no matter what happens. I need to stay rooted in Him. If anybody hears about what happened to me, I want them to learn that they need to have a strong relationship in Christ because they never know when they will meet Him. Don’t get into a life-threatening situation like I did to truly start living out your faith.” He deservedly got an A on the assignment.
